The Miracle of Life at Denville
Approximately 2,000 times each year,
a blessed event occurs at Saint Clare’s
Hospital/Denville – the birth of a child.
It’s every family’s special moment…
which lasts a lifetime.
Recently, the new 48,000 square-foot
Katena Center for Mother and Child launched with great
public recognition. The region’s finest birthplace
features 23 all-private Mother/Baby suites with
the ability to expand to 30 if necessary to handle
increased volume. In addition, the Katena Center
offers a new, enlarged and improved neonatal
intermediate-care unit (the Special Care Nursery)
to provide life-saving care for babies at risk; two
redecorated newborn nurseries; a new multipurpose
room; six on-call rooms for physicians; 10
private labor-and-delivery rooms; a perinatology
suite containing facilities for prenatal testing; and
a new family waiting room.
The new unit was made necessary due
to an extraordinary growth in births throughout the
area over the last several years. The previous
maternity center was designed to accommodate
only 1,500 babies a year. In addition the occupancy
rate of our neonatal intermediate care unit
– the Special Care Nursery – has been growing as
well. Designed to care for 50 at-risk babies a year,
it now admits, on average, more than 100.
