The Miracle of Saving Lives...at
Sussex
Saint Clare’s Hospital/Sussex provides much needed medical
services to Sussex County’s growing population. As the only
hospital serving northern Sussex County, Saint Clare’s must
provide a vibrant, technologically superior medical presence to the
community. Sussex County’s population growth rate is projected
at nearly 6 percent – the sixth fastest in the state. In addition,
the primary service area served by Saint Clare’s Hospital/Sussex
is projected to grow at an even faster pace –
7.5 percent.
First and foremost, our hospital must
enlarge and upgrade the service most often used by the community – the Emergency Department – where
more than 10,000 patients are cared for each year. In the last few
years, the department’s Patient Satisfaction surveys have scored
in the top 2 percent nationally – a tribute to the hard work
and dedication of all of our medical professionals. What we lack
is a state-of-the-art physical facility that matches our outstanding
care. Our renovation/expansion plans call for a new 4,000 square
foot Emergency Department; a new Nursing Station; upgraded Treatment
Rooms; a Pediatric Room with “kid friendly” décor;
an enlarged Patient Entry Area; improved ambulance access; an upgraded
Trauma Room; and a new, dedicated Cardiac Trauma Room.
For patients, the expansion means greater comfort and convenience,
and easier access to care. For staff, it will mean a more efficient
workspace. For each and every member of our community, the new Emergency
Department will be an invaluable resource for the community who live
and work in northern Sussex County.
In addition, as part of our plan to
create a “new model” for
the Sussex facility – one based on delivering outstanding primary
care, short hospital stays and referral to other specialty services
within the Saint Clare’s system – we plan to create a
new Patient Access area for the hospital, to provide convenience,
ease of entry, and efficient registration for our patients and their
families.
