Saint Clare's Opens New Maternity Center, Unveils Unprecedented $150 Million Investment In New Initiatives

New KatenaCenter is Named Following $5 Million Gift from Donor

On May 7, Saint Clare’s Health System celebrated the launch its state-of-the-art Maternal/Child Care Center at Saint Clare's Hospital/Denville – and the start of an unprecedented $150 million in new initiatives –  by hosting the World’s Largest Baby Shower to mark the occasion. The event’s host, Saint Clare’s President and Chief Executive Officer Gary J. Blan was joined by numerous dignitaries, physicians, employees and over 1,200 members of the community.

Saint Clare’s then literally “showered” more than 500 expectant mothers from the community with gifts, and officially named the new, 48,000 square feet, $11 million facility The Katena Center for Mother and Child

The new center carries the name of Katena Products, Inc., a Denville-based company founded and owned by Kate M. Tiedemann, whose $5 million gift to Saint Clare’s Foundation will underwrite the center’s development. Ms. Tiedemann’s gift is equal to the largest ever given to a New Jersey hospital by a living individual, and underscores the value of the maternity center, and Saint Clare’s Health System, to the community. Katena Products is the largest independently owned American company dedicated exclusively to ophthalmic surgical instrumentation.

“Everyone in attendance today has a great deal to be thankful for,” said Blan. “At Saint Clare’s, we are grateful that so many have chosen to share in this celebration with us. We are eternally grateful to Kate Tiedemann for her incredibly generous and unprecedented gift. Kate’s inspiring generosity and the amazing turnout here today are testaments to the fact that The Katena Center for Mother and Child is a facility built for the community – and by the community.  We are confident that it represents everything our community has hoped for and more in a state-of-the-art birthplace.”

The new Katena Center features a fully renovated and expanded Level II special care nursery (NICU); 23 all‑private, beautifully designed mother/baby “suites” complete with new furniture, soft hues, subdued lighting, an entertainment center, a pull-out couch for family members, and high-speed internet access; a new newborn nursery; the latest medical technology; dedicated concierge service; advanced security systems and many other features.  The KatenaCenter combines the latest medical technology, the amenities of a first-class hotel and the extraordinary quality of care for which Saint Clare’s is renowned.

“At Saint Clare’s, we really do believe in “miracles,” and this beautiful new maternity center is just one of the many miracles you’ll be seeing from Saint Clare’s in the near future,” said Blan. “Today, we celebrate the beginning of life with the miracle of birth. Eventually, we will celebrate the miracle of healing with other new facilities. Over the next few years, we will launch more than $150 million in new projects and systems that will position Saint Clare’s for unprecedented growth in the 21st Century.”

Those projects include the expansion and renovation of our emergency departments in Denville, Dover and Sussex; a new pediatrics center in Denville; a new cancer center; a new inpatient wing and patient access at our Boonton Township facility; as well as a multi-level parking garage and new patient access area in Denville. Saint Clare’s will also be completely modernizing its information technology with the installation of a new core clinical and physician order-entry computer system.
